Road safety teams across London are being reminded there is a little over a month until the deadline for nominations for the prestigious 2016 Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards.
Established in 1987 and managed by RoadSafe, the Prince Michael Awards recognise outstanding road safety achievement and innovation worldwide.
The awards are presented in five main categories based on the five pillars of the Global Plan for a Decade of Action: road safety management, safer roads, safer vehicles, safer road users, and post-crash response.
Transport for London (TfL) was the big winner last year, with its Work Related Road Risk and CLOCS programmes receiving awards in the road safety management category, before the latter was named recipient of the Prince’s Premier Award at the awards’ ceremony in December 2015.
Nominations opened in April alongside a new set of judging criteria designed to to help people prepare a nomination.
The changes to the nomination form and guidance are intended to clarify the level of research and evaluation expected in a high quality submission.
They are also designed to allow a judgement to be made on schemes that vary wildly in terms of financial investment, in order that well researched and executed local projects stand as good a chance of success as projects with significant financial backing and impressive metrics.
All award winners are invited to meet The Prince at his annual awards luncheon in London on 13 December.
