A one day conference taking place in April 2017 will focus on cycling’s role in the future of London and other cities.
The sixth annual Hackney Cycling Conference, titled ‘Cycling as a catalyst for healthy neighbourhoods’, will take place at Hackney Town Hall on 27 April and is expected once again to attract more than 200 attendees.
This event is aimed at practitioners whose role it is to modernise the streets of London and encourage more people to walk and cycle.
The agenda will explore the developing policy context and showcase approaches to help create healthy streets, and the associated improvements to air quality and the quality of life of Londoners, and encourage a shift from car to bike for short trips.
The event will be the first major cycling conference after the Mayor of London publishes his Transport Strategy, and as such provides an opportunity for professionals, politicians, academics and campaigners to discuss the implications of these changes for streets and neighbourhoods.
The co-organisers Steer Davies Gleave and the Hackney Cycling Campaign have issued a call for papers, in particular from speakers based outside London, so that attending delegates can learn from experience in other contexts. The deadline for submissions is 16 January 2017.
