What is being done to encourage children to walk to school?
Quote from Edward Seaman (web editor) on June 6, 2017, 1:31 pmAhead of Walk to School Week 2017 last month (15-19 May), Living Streets urged urban authorities to prioritise making school walking routes safer for children.
The call came on the back of new figures which show that 30% of parents living in the UK’s biggest cities believe their city is ‘too unsafe’ for children to walk to school.
In the last few months, we have published a number of stories on the LRSC newsfeed highlighting local initiatives:
- Camden pilots ‘Healthy School Streets’ initiative
- Bexley’s SCPs remind drivers that ‘Stop Means Stop’
So I'd be interested to hear what other boroughs are doing to encourage more young people to walk to school - and also to improve the safety of those doing so.
