A call for papers has been issued ahead of this year’s London Walking & Cycling Conference, which will look at how the Capital – and other cities – can take walking and cycling to the next level.
Organised by Hackney Council and the City of London Corporation, the annual event takes place at the Guildhall on 9 June 2023.
Over the pandemic there were a flurry of improvements to the infrastructure in place to encourage active travel across the world, transforming how people interact with the spaces they live and travel within.
This event will ask the question, what comes next?
Possible topics for speakers include the following, although any topics in the wider context of sustainable transport are welcomed:
- Being bold and taking action – turning bold ideas into action within the current economic climate for local authorities, businesses and nonprofits
- Community spaces – creating new public spaces out of the old with community at their heart
- Health and wellbeing – enabling people to make healthy choices in their everyday travel
- Measuring successes – measuring and understanding the work we’ve done so far to make sure next steps are even stronger.
The event organisers said: “We are currently looking for speakers to present their ideas to the conference. We welcome papers from across the sector including campaigners, academics, local authority officers and any other interested parties.
“We would especially like to welcome any new voices and fresh perspectives on walking and cycling, especially from minority voices.
“While the conference might have ‘London’ in the title, we are also seeking papers from outside the city and outside the UK so that we can learn from wide-ranging perspectives.”
Papers can be submitted via the event website – where tickets can also be purchased.
