Cycle training schemes
We offer free cycle training courses for children and adults living, studying or working in Wandsworth.
Pedestrian training
We offer pedestrian training for school children in Years 2 to 6, with the focus being on Years 2 and 3. Sessions are carried out off-site, in small groups, by a member of staff. Each session takes around 40 minutes.
Road safety talks
We conduct road safety talks aimed at Nursery and Reception children. Each session takes 25-30 minutes and is carried out in the classroom as a carpet session.
The sessions include songs, stories and pictures and cover holding hands, stop, look and listen and wearing a seat belt. Sessions can be adapted in order to accommodate older children.
Road safety shows
We have commissioned customised road safety shows for Primary and Secondary schools in Wandsworth, as well as a show aimed at the elderly.
The shows cover a variety of road safety topics from crossing the road safely to being visible at night. Schools or social clubs wishing to book a road safety show should contact us via email.
The Children's Traffic Club London (CTC London)
This is a TfL programme for pre-school children for use at home and in nurseries. It provides stories, songs, games and interactive resources with key road safety messages for children, parents and carers.
Nurseries and parents have to register their children to get access to online educational resources and a pack.
If your child attends nursery, please check whether the nursery has registered. If so, they should be able to provide you with a pack and a code for your online registration. If not, you can register your child individually.
Visit the Children's Traffic Club London website to register and for more information about the programme.
School crossing patrols
The job of a school crossing patroller is to help children to cross roads on their way to and from school.
While the Council no longer directly funds the school crossing patrol service, we do approve and review sites, recruit, train and supervise patrollers and manage the day to day running of the service.
For more information, contact the road safety team via email or on 020 8871 6677.
Scooter training
Free scooter training for children aged 4 to 7 years is available for schools with up-to-date School Travel Plans. The sessions include activities to develop the children’s skill and control when scooting as well as highlighting key road safety messages and consideration for others.
For more information or to request a scooter training session for your school, please email the School Travel Plan Team.
BikeSafe and Scooter Safe training
In conjunction with TfL and the Metropolitan Police we offer free BikeSafe and ScooterSafe courses.
BikeSafe is a police-led motorcycle project that is run by most forces throughout the UK. The main aim is to reduce the number of bikers being hurt on the roads.
The BikeSafe workshop explores the main riding hazards that bikers face. By delivering theory presentations and observed rides, a BikeSafe workshop will help you discover your strengths and weaknesses and also where to go next to develop and get more from your biking.
The course costs £45, but for a limited period we are offering free voucher codes to book online. For your code please contact us via email.
