Mission: Make it safely to Jasmine's party.
[[START]]
<div>
What do you do? Do you take a risk like Amber or stay safe like Andy? As you think about about your decision, mum's age-old speech replays in your head over and over...
Incoming in 3..2..[[1]]
*"How many times do I have to remind you??
You've got to wear clothing that mean drivers will actually see you!
It's for your own safety.
If I can barely make out what you're wearing in our brightly-lit home, what does that mean for drivers on those busy, hectic roads?
Think about the different factors at play:
What if a driver is distracted by his phone?
What if a driver is speeding?
What if it starts raining? Slippery roads equal drivers with less control.
That's why you must do your own part to ensure your safety. So please, get on your bright, reflective clothing **NOW ."*
Do you listen to her [[Advice]] Or pass it off with a [[Yawn]]?
You know Mum is right. She just wants to protect you and make sure you're as safe as possible. Plus, it is only an item of clothing after all, so is it that big of a deal?
**So, once and for all. What should you do?**
[[Follow Amber's lead]]
[[Stick to Mum's rules]]
She says it so often that it's forever lodged in your mind at this point!
You aren't a little kid anymore and need to stop being treated like one - it is embarrassing! And it isn't like Amber doesn't know what she's talking about - she is your older sister after all. You want to impress her too, she's popular at school and everyone thinks she's cool.
**So... what's the final verdict?**
[[Follow Amber's lead]]
[[Stick to Mum's rules]]
You [[rip]] off your bright, reflective puffer jacket and carry on walking.
Popularity and coolness doesn't excuse safety! You'd rather protect yourself than impress people at school, you know better.
But...
how do you get Amber to realise that? You want all three of you to be as safe as possible.
**What do you do?**
[[Argue your case]] for why Amber should add brightness to her outfit
Attempt to reason with Amber but instantly [[give up]]
Amber sniggers, smugly and dives into a [[rant.]]
There's no point in even trying to argue with her, she's too cocky to ever listen to a word you say. You resign to that fact and follow her lead.
You all walk to the first [[crossing ->If so, it's time to walk to the first crossing.]]
*“Do you seriously think you know more than me?! Did you forget that I’m literally two years older than you? That means I’ve been on the roads for two years longer than you and I’ve gotten double as many lectures from Mum. So I do know what I’m talking about! Wearing bright clothing has done NOTHING but clash with my outfits! There’s literally no point in it! Why don’t you think for yourself for a change instead of doing everything Mummy says!”*
**WOAH**...That was a lot to take in. [[Time to reflect]]...
Amber is making you question your decision. You're back at square one!
**What should you do?**
[[Question whether you should listen to Mum's advice]]
[[Stand your ground and stick to your gut]]
Amber does raise a valid point; she has a lot more experience than you, plus you can't help but want to impress her. But Mum's advice is ringing around your head. You know what to do.
[[Stand your ground and stick to your gut]]
Amber's shocked that you've not resigned to her rules for once.
*"I've never seen you so defiant and passionate about something. Usually you just follow whatever I say. What's changed now?"*
*[["It's because this is actually important! I want us all to be as safe as possible!"]]*
*"Well, that told me...Did Mum brainwash you to come out with a reply as bold as that?"* Amber replies.
**Goodness, she is stubborn! What should you say?**
*[["It's because I care! I don't want to risk any of us getting hurt, especially not for a random outfit."]]*
[[Quietly resign - there's no winning with Amber]]
There's silence. All of a sudden, Amber looks at you and says...
*"You're right...I know I sometimes seem like I don't really care, but I guess you're right. We should wear them to be as safe as possible. You win, this time!"*
**Success!**
[[The three of you make your way to Jasmine's party and...]]
You follow Amber's guidance and remove your coat, before walking to the first [[crossing ->If so, it's time to walk to the first crossing.]]
**THE END**
Congratulations, you have made it to the end of our Be Bright, Be Seen interactive, decision-making game!
You have successfully made it to Jasmine's party safely, making sure you're all dressed in bright, reflective clothing!
[[What's next?]]**Design an outfit!**
We want you to design your own ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ outfit. Wearing this outfit should make you visible to drivers and other road users to help keep you safe, especially when it is dark outside. We know that you have a great sense of style and have a keen eye for current trends. Think about all the elements your outfit could include to make sure you are seen when out on the street, using fluorescent colours and reflective materials. You may want to design the outfit for a cyclist, jogger or dog walker. Don’t forget about accessories (bags, hats, shoes etc.) You can even create a summer and winter version if you like!
Whilst doing so, you catch a glimpse of Andy's face. You sense his disappointment as well as anxiety. It makes you rethink your decision for a second.
**Do you stick to your decision of following Amber?**
[[If so, it's time to walk to the first crossing.]]
Or do you think you'd best [[stick to Mum's rules ->Stick to Mum's rules]]
You get to your first road crossing, and it seems a piece of cake. It is a pelican crossing, so you press the button. You wait for the green man to light up, looking all around and listening to make sure it is safe to cross.
Amber immediately barges forward, as she always does, and you quickly follow behind. [[Until you realise...]]
Andy's still stood on the other side of the road. He is trembling with fear. Do you go back and get him? Or do you stay put and let him cross on his own? I mean, you've basically reached the other side and the green man is flashing which means it’s about to turn red any [[second]] now.
Quick! Make a split second decision!
You have (set: $counter to 20)(css: "color: red; font-size: 150%")[|amount>[$counter]](live: 1s)[(set: $counter to it - 1)(if: $counter is 0)[(go-to: "times up")](replace: ?amount)[$counter]] seconds left!
**Do you...**
[[Stay put and wait for Andy -> no]]
**or**
[[Go over and help Andy -> yay]]
**Time's up!**
Oh dear! You ran out of time. Remember, to be as alert as possible in order to stay as safe as possible.
[[Try again ->second]]
You repeatedly gesture for Andy to come over but there's no point, he's too nervous.
**How can you help him?**
[[Press the button and wait for the green man before going to help him]]
[[Go and help Andy now, the red light is lit but there's no cars coming! -> yay]]
As you make your way down the crossing, the flourescent lights of speeding cars begin to flash which grab your attention, diverting your gaze. You suddenly stop, disoriented for a moment:
A pause in time.
You stand still for a few seconds, until there's roaring [[BEEP]]!
You turn to your right and see a car coming straight for you at full speed. You're in the middle of the road!
**What do you do?**
[[Run back to the closer side]]
[[Stand still in shock]]
You ran just at the right time! Any slower and who knows what could have happened.
[[Take a deep breath]]
Amber realises what's happening and instantly sweeps in, she forcefully grabs your arms and pulls you back in.
[[You're safe]]
Once the Red Man turns Green, you and Amber both walk over to Andy. You all look at each other, still in shock and disbelief over what just happened. Processing that Mum was right all along.
Amber breaks the silence.
*"I'm sorry"* She whispers. *"I'm your big sister, so I should be responsible. I needed that reality check. Let's put on our ugly neon jackets, so we can be safe, okay?"*
[[Put on your jacket]]
Finally, all dressed in the appropriate way, the three of you can [[make your way ->The three of you make your way to Jasmine's party and...]] to Jasmine's party as safely as possible.
Although you were fast enough this time, it's a clear reality check for the future: you can never be too careful!
**This is why you must always follow road safety guidelines and wear appropriate clothing that is bright and reflective, ensuring you are visible to drivers on roads. This is to protect yourself from any potential predicaments as much as possible.**
You [[hug]] close to your siblings.
You all look at each other, still in shock and disbelief over what just happened. Processing that Mum was right all along.
Amber breaks the silence with an apology.
*"I'm sorry"* She whispers. *"I'm your big sister, so I should be responsible. I needed that reality check. Let's put on our ugly neon jackets, so we can be safe, okay?"*
[[Put on your jacket]]
Good choice! It's best to not risk it, the traffic lights are about to change any second now and you would not want them to change mid-crossing!
[[Cross over to Andy when it is safe to do so]]
Now that you have all safely crossed the road, you begin walking along Church Lane. This means you're only two streets away from Jasmine's house, you've nearly made it!
You start to smile, you're super excited to see your friends, when all of a sudden there's a loud **[[SCREECH]]**!
A bicycle comes to a screeching stop in front of you.
You all jump back in shock.
*"Oh my! If it wasn't for my bicycle light, I wouldn't have been able to see you at all!"* cried the cyclist.
You all look down, shuffling your feet, embarrassed.
*"It's better to be safe than sorry!"* he said, as he began peddling away.
You grab your siblings by the [[hand]]
You all look at each other, still in shock and disbelief over what just happened, processing that Mum was right all along.
Amber breaks the silence with an apology.
*"I'm sorry"* she whispers. *"I'm your big sister, so I should be responsible. I needed that reality check. Let's put on our ugly neon jackets, so we can be safe, okay?"*
