Primary schools across London are being invited to take part in a poetry competition, designed to ‘celebrate the many benefits of cycling’.
The competition has been organised by Evans Cycles, in partnership with Sir Chris Hoy, who will visit the winning school.
The competition has been launched ahead of National Poetry Day (4 October), with the theme of ‘change’ – asking how cycling can ‘change you, change your school or even change the world?’.
Schools are being encouraged to organise classroom based activities to help pupils learn more about the benefits of cycling, culminating in the creation of either an individual or class poem about bikes, cycling or bike racing.
Participating schools will then be asked to shortlist one poem to be submitted to Evans Cycles for the competition.
The winning school will be visited by Sir Chris Hoy who will help host a British Cycling HSBC Go-Ride cycling session – as well as ‘inspire and entertain’ pupils with stories from his cycling career.
In support of the competition, Evans Cycles has produced a resource pack – available to download from the retailer’s website.
