The agenda has been published for a one-day conference taking place in London next month, which will examine the future of road safety in the Capital.
Organised by the London Road Safety Council (LRSC), the free-to-attend conference takes place at Palestra – the Southwark-based home of TfL – on 2 November.
The conference is intended to be of interest local authority road safety professionals and elected members from London and beyond, as well as other stakeholders.
The event will see David Davies, executive Director of PACTS, outline the case for the restoration of national casualty reduction targets – referencing a new report which urges the Government to adopt a set of road safety ‘performance indicators’.
In the report, published earlier this month, PACTS says the performance indicators would cover roads, vehicles, users and emergency services in order to focus ‘scarce resources’ on the most effective interventions.
Liz Knight, vice-president of the LRSC, and Saul Jeavons from the Transafe Network, will present the results of a project looking at the future of road safety education in London.
Over the past 12 months the LRSC, with support from the Road Safety Trust, has conducted in-depth research to discover how London’s boroughs plan to meet the challenge of reducing road casualties against a background of diminished resources.
Rory McMullan (City of London) and Mark Bland (Waltham Forest) will discuss ‘Vision Zero’ in their respective boroughs, while Michael Cordon from Cycle Confident will explain to delegates how to get their communities cycling.
Other topics on the agenda include: changes to rider and driver training legislation; reducing speed limits; school streets; and social media.
