The London Road Safety Council has presented two prominent members of the organisation with Distinguished Service Awards.

Debbie Huckle and Cllr Val Clark were recognised at the London Road Safety Council’s AGM on 12 July – having been nominated by their peers.

Debbie Huckle is the team leader for safety and travel planning at Brent Council and has nearly two decades of experience working in road safety.

Debbie has represented the borough on the London Road Safety Council for ten years, taking a more active role in 2013 when she was elected as honorary secretary – a position she continues to hold today.

Debbie has also served as the chair of the Business sub-committee and now the Finance and Delivery sub-committee – which came about as a result of a review of committee structures that Debbie oversaw.

She is also vice chair of the 2Wheels London Stakeholder Group.

Debbie’s nomination form read: “The London Road Safety Council benefits hugely from Debbie’s commitment and unwavering support.

“She gives a great deal of time and encouragement to the executive officer and members – helping to develop activities for the prosperity of casualty reduction in London.”

Cllr Val Clark is former chair of the London Road Safety Council – who continues to play a prominent role in road safety in the Capital as and elected member for Bexley.

Cllr Clark, who has also served as chair of the Executive Committee, was instrumental in securing James Cracknell OBE as president of the Council.

At a borough level, Cllr Clark has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the dangers of second hand child car seats – even personally delivering leaflets to all charity shops in Bexley.

Cllr Clark’s nomination form reads: “Val has been an active and committed member of London Road Safety Council for many years and has served with merit.

“Val is always willing to take up the gauntlet for road safety and has written to ministers, mayors and prospective mayors many times to champion our cause.

“On a borough level, Val is a true champion for road safety and takes an active role in supporting the work of Bexley’s road safety team – even personally hand delivering letters about the safety of second hand child seats to all of the boroughs charity shops.”
