Hundreds of children from schools across Hackney will saddle up on Thursday (29 June) to take part in an annual cycling event.
Now in its seventh year, Bike around the Borough (BATB) is organised by Hackney Council in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, as part of wider efforts to encourage more children to cycle.
Last year more than 1,000 riders from 46 schools took part in BATB, breaking the world record for the number of people participating in a ‘bike bus’ – where a group of cyclists ride together along a set route, picking up people as they go.
The 2017 bike bus route starts in Hackney Downs Park at 10am and stops at Clissold Park before making its way back to Hackney Downs Park where there will be a host of bike-related activities for the participants to enjoy.
Pop-up ‘motivation’ stations will be positioned along the route that can be enjoyed by anyone in Hackney on the day to help create a festival atmosphere.
Bike Around the Borough is sponsored by Volker Highways and the Berkeley Group, with organisers advising that there may be minor delays on some roads during the day.
