Event will demonstrate latest fleet safety innovations

Cycle Safety Shield +

A one-day event organised on behalf of Richmond Council will showcase a series of advanced safety innovations for vehicle fleets.

At Richmond Council’s depot in Twickenham on 30 January (12-4pm), delegates will see demonstrations including the latest collision avoidance technology on HGVs and a solution to car/taxi ‘dooring’.

The event is being organised on behalf of Richmond Council by Safety Shield Systems, which provides safety systems to the automotive, construction, highway and transport sectors.

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is the first UK council to commit to installing Safety Shield Systems’ latest Cycle Safety Shield + technology.

All of the council’s HGVs are being fitted with the new Cycle Safety Shield +, designed to make cyclists and other vulnerable road users safer by warning HGV drivers if a collision is imminent and filtering out other objects to reduce driver distraction.

The new fully-integrated system uses intelligent multi-vision cameras fitted to the vehicles, including 360 3D vision and radar, which ‘act as a driver’s third eye’ to monitor 360 degrees around the vehicle.

Transport authorities from across the world will also be the event, along with representatives from three of the UK’s largest insurance companies who will answer questions on premium reductions relating to the new systems.
