Event to support older drivers and their families

Older drivers and their families are being encouraged to attend a free road safety event taking place in Haringey later this year.

The Older Drivers Forum takes place at the Sunshine Garden Centre, Bounds Green (NR11 2EL) on 1 October (10am-4pm).

The Older Drivers Forum was set up in 2013 with the aim of keeping older drivers safely on the roads for longer, and helping relatives and carers deal with the issues that can be associated with older drivers.

The purpose of the session is to:

  • Reduce killed and seriously injured older drivers
  • Discuss the issues of older people retiring from driving – including alternative travel options
  • Promote a safer driving transition and support using public transport
  • Provide support to the older drivers and their families

The London event is being co-ordinated by the London Fire Brigade, with a number of other organisations set to be involved.

These include: Metropolitan Police, Age UK, Opticians, Audiologist, Mobile Tyre company, Driving Assessment, Stroke Society, Dementia Society and Transport for London.

For more information, email Gita Butler, community safety development officer at London Fire Brigade.
