Conference presentation will focus on ‘sources of road danger’

Leon Daniels

Delegates attending the LRSC Centenary Conference will hear how TfL is working with London boroughs to achieve the target of halving the number of people killed and seriously injured on the Capital’s roads by 2020.

The one-day Centenary Conference, ‘Safer Cities, Safer Futures’, will be held at the Guildhall in the City of London on 24 January 2017. Sponsored by RedSpeed International, the conference will explore the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for road safety professionals working in cities across the UK.

The presentation, delivered by Leon Daniels, TfL’s managing director of surface transport, will outline the five main sources of road danger in London: travelling too fast, becoming distracted, undertaking risky manoeuvres, drink or drug use while driving and failing to comply with the law.

Delegates will hear how, by focusing attention on these five sources of danger, TfL can prioritise the main causes of deaths and serious injuries and take further steps to eradicate the risk of collisions from occurring.

Leon Daniels joined TfL in April 2011 after a career in government, shipping, tourism and public transport.

He spent 27 years in the private sector and was in business both on his own account and as a director at FirstGroup plc. He has wide national and international experience having worked in Hong Kong and the USA.

He joined TfL ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games to oversee the delivery of surface transport in what is now recognised as a hugely successful world-class event.

His current TfL responsibilities include the safe and efficient running of London’s roads, bus services, taxis, cycle hire, river services, overground, DLR, Emirates Airline and trams.
