BikeWeek 2016 gets underway tomorrow (11 June), with events scheduled to take place across London in a bid to show how cycling can easily be part of everyday life.

With more than half a million people set to join in events, Bike Week is the UK’s biggest nationwide cycling event.

The week aims to get people ‘to give cycling a go’ by demonstrating its social, health and environmental benefits.

Bike Week 2016 has a special focus on encouraging people to cycle to work. Many people are expected to participate in ‘buddy’ rides with colleagues to scope out the easiest route to their place of work, or to take part in workplace challenges.

As part of the event, the London Borough of Camden is hosting a range of events including a number of Dr Bike maintenance sessions and a cyclists’ breakfast.

On Sunday 19 June, the 10th ‘Ride All Around Camden’ will take place, allowing residents to take part in a free, fun and easy-paced bike ride to celebrate the Borough’s ‘many fascinating places’.

To kick off its Bike Week programme, Haringey’s road safety team is this Sunday (12 June) hosting a Festival of Cycling alongside Hackney and Islington Councils. The free event will take place at Finsbury Park and will include cycle races, fun bikes, an organised cycle ride, BMX displays and scooter training.

On Wednesday (15 June), Haringey will host a ‘Mass Cycle Ride’ for schools in the Borough. Looking to build on last year’s event, the day will consist of a planned route covering five of Haringey’s parks.

A full list of all events can be found on the Bike Week website.

Those looking for more information on events in each specific London borough are should contact their local authority road safety team.
