Boroughs combine to host festival of walking and cycling

Saddle and sole cycle event2

Finsbury Park will play host to a family orientated walking and cycling festival next month, organised to boost active travel in Hackney, Islington and Haringey.

‘Saddle and Sole – Festival of Walking and Cycling’ takes place on 17 June (12-6pm), with entrance to the event via Seven Sisters Road (opposite Blackstock Road).

Organised by Hackney, Islington and Haringey Councils, the event features a host of fun walking and cycling related activities, while experts will be on hand to provide information and advice.

In terms of cycling, two 5km rides will take place at 2pm and 4pm (sign up on the day), while those who bring along their bicycle can take advantage of free maintenance – carried out by Dr Bike – and receive free safety marking to protect their bike against theft.

For less confident riders, there are all ability cycling sessions – courtesy of the Pedal Power Cycling Club – while adults can sign up for free skills sessions.

Experienced riders can enter the 100km challenge, ‘The Italian Job’, which starts at 8.30am (enter in advance).

There will also be a bike market including refurbished bikes and bike swap, scooter sales, scooter training – and food from around the world.

Those more interested in walking can participate in a number of walks (sign up on the day), along with a host of family fun activities.
