Beat the Street returns to Hounslow

Beat the Street – an initiative which aims to get people walking and cycling through a giant game – is returning to Hounslow next month.

Running from 18 September to 30 October, Beat the Street rewards local residents with points and prizes for exploring the town on foot or by bicycle.

Hundreds of sensors called Beat Boxes will be installed across the borough which players tap with contactless cards and key fobs to track their journey and earn points.

The initiative was last held in the borough in 2017.

Over the six weeks, players join teams from local schools, businesses and community groups and compete to see if their team can score the most points and win hundreds of pounds worth of prizes.

Additionally, there will be several events throughout the game period – such as park walks and nature trails – designed to promote active travel.

The event is being supported by the Hounslow Association for the Blind – who will provide volunteers to ensure that visually impaired people can participate.
