Attendees give LRSC conference a big ‘thumbs up’

LRSC audience

96% of delegates who attended the London Road Safety Council’s Centenary Conference in January rated the overall event as either ‘good or excellent’.

In the post-event survey, 94% of respondents rated the conference content as ‘good or excellent’, while 94% gave the same rating to the evening reception, which included an address by LRSC president James Cracknell OBE.

Titled ‘Safer Cities, Safer Futures’ and organised to celebrate the LRSC’s centenary, the conference explored the challenges and opportunities facing road safety professionals working in cities across the UK.

While the majority of the 191 delegates who attended the conference were based in the Capital, some travelled from much further afield including Edinburgh, East Sussex, Yorkshire and Wales.

In total the agenda comprised 14 presentations covering topics such as motorcycle safety, 20mph limits and shared spaces. Within that, a number of officers and councillors from across London shared their experiences on specific local schemes including Bank Junction, Mini-Holland in Waltham Forest, 20mph limits in Hackney and powered two wheelers in Lewisham.

Among the other highlights were: an opening keynote address from Leon Daniels, head of surface transport at TfL; a presentation on autonomous technology from Richard Cuerden (TRL); and a demonstration of the world’s first airbag for cyclists by Fredrick Carling, CEO of the Swedish company Hovding.

Presentations from the day are available to download from the event website.

There were a number of very positive comments from people who completed the survey. One attendee said the ‘conference covered a good range of topics’, while another described the evening reception as a ‘great way to end the day’. Perhaps the most fitting comment was: ‘So proud of how it all went – couldn’t have been better’.
