We provide information to members of the public on matters such as in-car safety and drink driving. We also have a programme of road safety education in all schools in the borough and provide specialist advice, by appointment, to older people’s groups.
Some of our work focuses on:
Child car seats
All passengers in vehicles must wear a seatbelt where they are fitted. No child under 14 years may be carried in the front of any vehicle without wearing a seatbelt or suitable child car seat.
It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure all children under 14 years are using the proper child seats or seat belts – and the driver will be prosecuted if this is not done, even if it is someone else’s child.

Cycle training
Cycling is a great way to get around Hounslow; it's cheap, quick and healthy. However, we know that cycling in London can seem daunting at first, which is why we offer cycle training for adults and children who live, work or study in Hounslow.
There is a range of different cycle training options available to suit all ages and abilities - take a look at these options to find the best one for you.
Pedestrian training (Safer Steps)
The Safer Steps scheme is available to children in Years 1 to 4 in all the schools in Hounslow. The school decides if they would like us to come into their school to deliver the scheme and what age group will participate.
The scheme involves taking the children out over four weeks for one hour sessions on to the road side, to discuss different aspects of road safety. Before the scheme starts we plan a route using roads around the school.
School crossing patrols
We have a programme of safe and healthy routes to school that are aimed at discouraging children and their parents and carers from driving to and from school, and to consider walking, cycling or using public transport instead.
School crossing patrols are provided where children are in danger from road traffic when walking to and from school. This is not necessarily outside a school, but could be anywhere on a direct route.
