We promote active travel and road safety to all youth-based educational settings (between the ages of 5-19), offering activities, competitions and grants that help schools meet the criteria for STARS accreditation.

For more information on what we can offer, please see: https://www.croydon.gov.uk/transportandstreets/school-travel-plans

Croydon JTAJunior Travel Ambassadors (JTAs) – Primary Schools
Schools are offered the opportunity to take part in the Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTA) scheme. JTAs use peer-to-peer engagement to promote safer, active and independent travel within the school community in a fun and engaging way. The JTA scheme gives pupils all the support and resources they need to spread important messages while building skills for life.

See https://www.croydon.gov.uk/transportandstreets/roadsafety/jta for more information.

Croydon YTAYouth Travel Ambassadors (YTAs) – Secondary Schools
Schools usually recruit between 6 and 12 YTA students who deliver behaviour change campaigns to their peers over the course of the academic year. Campaign initiatives can include themed assemblies, walking and cycling competitions, creative workshops, films and community events.

There are programme options to suit all schools and students which include:

  • Sessions delivered by specialist TfL staff
  • £250 funding to deliver a YTA campaign
  • Options to attend Campaign Junction and end of year Expo events
  • Training for students to become YTA Student Leaders to mentor their peers

Can’t commit to a full YTA programme? You can opt to run a term challenge instead!
